What was Barack Obama bopping to in 2017? The former president has released a list of songs and books he enjoyed in 2017.
Like the rest of us, the former president was jamming to SZA, Daniel Caesar, and JAY-Z in 2017. Obama listed Jay’s “Family Feud” and SZA’s “Broken Clocks” as some of his favorite music along with Caesar’s “Blessed.”
And, now that he’s got a little down time, Obama tackled a few good books. Jesmyn Ward’s Sing, Unburied, Sing and Shea Serrano’s Basketball (and Other Things) both made the former president’s list.
Obama wrote, “During my presidency, I started a tradition of sharing my reading lists and playlists. It was a nice way to reflect on the works that resonated with me and lift up authors and artists from around the world. With some extra time on my hands this year to catch up, I wanted to share the books and music that I enjoyed most. From songs that got me moving to stories that inspired me, here’s my 2017 list — I hope you enjoy it and have a happy and healthy New Year.”
In 2016, Obama shared a summer playlist that included songs from Janelle Monaé, Common, Nina Simone, and Leon Bridges.
Michelle Obama is no stranger to bops either. The former First Lady has appeared on Carpool Karaoke with Missy Elliott, teamed up with Jay Pharoah for a rap song about college, and has become the go-to GIF when it comes to expressing admiration for songs.
We’re wishing the Obamas a happy and wonderful new year with more bops to come.
