In light of recent tensions between Baton Rouge community and police, a new local organization is doing all it can to repair the frayed trust.
According to the Greater Baton Rouge Business Report, Together Baton Rouge, a faith-based organization that confronts issues plaguing the community, has partnered with the Department of Justice to implement a new policing initiative.

“Our goal is to get people on the street, on the corner…those who are experiencing some struggles in their lives, to make them a part of the discussion,” Together Baton Rouge member and local Rev. Lee Wesley said earlier this week at a press conference. “People with the problem need to be part of the discussion on how to solve the problem.”

Though a detailed plan has not yet been released, over the next six months, the organization will brainstorm ways to confront deep-seated systemic issues. Additionally, members from the initiative will have sit-down meetings with every politician running for local office.
