Reading beauty blogs is one of our all-time favorite pastimes! With each click of the mouse and swipe of the mascara wand, we become more and more smitten with these online beauty gurus, which is why we’re giving you an all-access pass to the top beauty mavens and their must-have products! This week, we’re chatting with Jacquelyn Aina of Makeup Game on Point.
ESSENCE.com: What is the best part of being a blogger?
Jacquelyn: The people I’ve met and the places I’ve gone because of it. I have met some pretty dope people, all from YouTube! Even when I am in another country people recognize me. It’s mind boggling!
ESSENCE.com: Why are you most proud of your blog?
Jacquelyn: I am proud of my blog because I feel it does exactly what I am aim to accomplish – to make women, and people in general, feel good. I even get emails from men who compliment me on my work and tell me my color choices inspire them as artists. I’m like, lil ol’ me?! Wow!
ESSENCE.com: What is the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to you as a result of your blog?
Jacquelyn: Being featured on ESSENCE ONLINE! And hopefully to be published with them in print one day!
ESSENCE.com: What are your three favorite blogs to read other than your own?
Jacquelyn: SuperVaidosa.com Although I don’t speak Portuguese, I love her photos and makeup choices!
DulceCandy.com She has the cutest taste in fashion, is fun-sized like me and is also a fellow Army veteran, hooah!
Hudabeauty.com Her blog is so addicting! I love that she’s a real, established and working makeup artist like myself and gives tips women can actually use!
ESSENCE.com: Do you blog full time? If so, how did you transition into this full time? If not, how in the heck do you make time to blog regularly?
Jacquelyn: It’s more of a part-time thing since I am a full time student. Once school is out I definitely see myself blogging full-time because it does not feel like a chore at all! When you love something you really don’t need to make time. You just kind of do it!
ESSENCE.com: What is the funniest or most shocking comment you’ve ever received on a blog post?
Jacquelyn: Honestly, my followers are funny as hell. I can’t think of just one!
ESSENCE.com: If you could write a non-beauty related post, what would it be about?
Jacquelyn: Coincidentally enough, today I took some photos of my room to do a “room tour” type of post. Room tours are very popular on YouTube and since I just moved back to the U.S. after living in Kuwait for 13 months I am having so much fun furnishing my new apartment. I wanted to share some color choice combinations and organizational tips.
ESSENCE.com: What is a recent beauty disaster you endured but didn’t write about on your blog?
Jacquelyn: I pride myself in rarely having any beauty disasters, but once I picked up my lash glue thinking it was concealer and slathered it right onto my cheek without paying attention. It was the epic fail moment of the year.
ESSENCE.com: Your strangest beauty/hair obsession that your readers would be surprised to know is:____
Jacquelyn: May sound gross but I occasionally get chin hairs, and they are really annoying! I just pluck them out. Thanks a lot mom!
ESSENCE.com: If you could interview anyone in the world, dead or alive, for your blog it would be_____. And why?
Jacquelyn: Probably Sam Fine, because he’s just badass.
ESSENCE.com: What was your biggest beauty/hair splurge ever? Would you spend that much on a item/service/product again? Why, or why not?
Jacquelyn: The line of Obagi skincare products and chemical peels. I started using this system while living in Kuwait earlier this year and thank God it’s Beverly Hills-based! This stuff has helped transform my skin, and I get so many compliments on my skin when I’m not wearing makeup!
