Last night, Beyoncé called for a moment of silence during her show in Nashville to honor the memory of Trayvon Martin.
The Associated Press reports that shortly after a jury of six women found George Zimmerman not guilty in the death of Trayvon Martin, Beyoncé said to her fans, ‘‘I’d like to have a moment of silence for Trayvon.”
The stage was dim and only a spotlight shined on Beyoncé as she began to sing the chorus of the song “I Will Always Love You.” Soon after, she transitioned into her powerful ballad “Halo.”
Beyoncé, who also headlined this year’s ESSENCE Festival, was not alone in sharing her sentiment about the tragic death of Trayvon Martin. A number of celebrities took to social media to share their reactions to the verdict last night. Close friend Kelly Rowland tweeted, “Disappointed. Literally in tears right now,” she wrote. “Keeping Trayvon’s family in my prayers.”
