Mrs. Shawn Carter has officially kicked off her highly anticipated world tour. Beyoncé’s very first show of the tour promoting her latest album “I Am…Sasha Fierce” debuted in the western Canadian city of Edmonton, according to the Edmonton Journal. Whether it was a momentous occasion or just an opportunity to test out the show and work out the kinks in front of a “modest” audience — only 8,000 fans turned out, a very small crowd for the Grammy-winning star. Reportedly there were obvious glitches here and there during the Texan’s performance, and it felt like the show dragged on for a tad too long (two hours and 15 minutes) before it finally got to the smash infectious hit “Single Ladies (Put A Ring On It).” Still, Edmonton fans didn’t seem to walk away disappointed.
French designer Thierry Mugler, the creative director for the tour, designed looks that captured Beyoncé’s duality of being a super heroine that is as bold as she is beautiful. The costumes are very elaborate, “Feminine. Free. Warrior. Fierce,” says Mugler to Women’s Wear Daily about how he would describe the aesthetic of the designs.—— BB and QS
