Disney has confirmed the news that many fans have been wishing for and that is that Beyoncé will be joining the live-action Lion King remake.
The simple tweet on Wednesday night from Disney’s official Twitter account announced that Mrs. Carter will star as Nala, the fictional lioness who is the childhood friend and wife of Simba.
The Houston native joins an illustrious cast with actors of color including Emmy winning actor and director Donald Glover as Simba, Alfre Woodard as Simba’s mother Sarabi and Chiwetel Ejifor taking on the villainous role of Scar. Veteran actor James Earl Jones will reprise his role from the 1994 animated original with the much beloved character, Mufasa.
Many speculated that the new mom of 3 would join the live-action remake over the summer with Variety reporting that the 22-time Grammy winner was the top choice for the role as Nala.
Disney’s tweet also revealed that the production is slated to debut in the summer of 2019.
It looks like Donald Glover’s Simba has found its queen in Beyoncé; all hail!
