Big Freedia is in mourning after the loss of her brother, Adam Ross.
The 39-year-old bounce music pioneer shared the news on social media with two posts confirming his death in New Orleans.
“My heart is so heavy right now,” Freedia said. “They took my baby brother from me. I can’t get ready for this now. He is in heaven with my Mama. Lord give me strength!! Y’all pray for me and my family!”
As reported by The New Orleans Times-Picayune, Freedia confirmed Thursday morning that Ross was fatally shot near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Magnolia Street. Her family’s lawyer also identified Ross as the victim in the late-night homicide.
A shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Wednesday evening drawing a dozen onlookers to the scene. Authorities have not publically identified the body or a motive but searched abandoned homes nearby to look for possible clues.
Freedia’s mother, Vera Ross, passed away in 2014 after a long battle with spine and lung cancer. The beloved mother left behind Freedia, Adam and daughter, Crystal.
“Up can’t sleep my lil brother really gone,” Freedia said in a second post. “They took him from us. Please pinch me so I can wake up from this dream. Missing him like crazy, my only blood brother! God give me strength.”
Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ross family.
