On Tuesday the 60th Annual Grammy nominations were announced with some major wins for artists of color. Leading the pack is Brooklyn-bred rapper JAY-Z for his album 4:44 that was said to be his response to wife, Beyoncé’s Lemonade album. But the 47-year-old isn’t the only rap artists getting accolades.
Kendrick Lamar follows close behind JAY-Z with seven nominations including Record of the Year and Album of the Year for DAMN.. Cardi B, Goldlink, Rapsody and Migos also have nominations in the ever-evolving genre.
In the category of R&B, Childish Gambino is leading the pack with five nominations, but newcomer Khalid, doesn’t fall far behind with four nominations that include Best Urban Contemporary Album. And while they didn’t release any albums in 2017, Beyoncé and Pharrell Williams could potentially win with contributions to major projects.
