Things are really heating up on Bravoโs Blood, Sweat, and Heels! We caught up with cast members Daisy Lewellyn and Mica Hughes to talk about daddy issues, alcoholism, that frightful incident in the Hamptons, and more.
ESSENCE.com: Mica, you found out her father passed away shortly before the groupโs trip to the Hamptons, which ultimately led to that ghastly encounter in the Hamptonโs. How did it feel to watch that episode?
Mica Hughes: It was really hurtful to see myself like that. I had family members who contacted me who said they cried watching the episode. To go through that and then have to watch myself go through it was really hard.
Daisy Llewelyn: Melissa and I werenโt there so I was very nervous and anxious about seeing it. I was almost in tears because I just felt so bad for Mica. It was like she was walking into a lionโs den. At one point I almost yelled at the screen, โShe just lost her father! Oh my gosh!โ They didnโt know her father had passed away but they were very aware that she was going through a hard time. If they were to lose a parent, they would definitely want compassion and I hope they never have to experience what they made Mica experience.
ESSENCE.com: Alcohol consumption on the showhas become a reoccurring topic. How do you feel about some of your cast mates labeling you an alcoholic, Mica?
Mica: I felt like itโs a low blow. On a reality show once someone calls you an alcoholic or a drunk, the camera is going to pay attention to every time you lift a glass and then itโs going to be sensationalized and of course people are going to believe it. I donโt have a problem with alcohol. Anyone who knows me knows itโs not true. So for two girls who donโt even know me to say that shouldnโt be taken as fact.
Daisy: I think itโs so funny that theyโve been discussing an accusation as if itโs factual. Alcoholism is very serious. Peopleโs lives are destroyed because of it so to take it from your opinion to actually having conversations and interviews as if its been proven factual is very strange.
ESSENCE.com: You both have very relatable father situations. Daisy, you and your father went through hard times and then reconciled and now have a great relationship.
Daisy: The Bible inspired my decision. I read a scripture that basically asked, โHow can you say you love God whom youโve never seen and say you hate man who you see all the time.โ I thought, โWhoa thatโs for me. I have to love my father no matter what, because heโs my dad.โ I called him and apologized for the things I have done, I did not bring up anything he had done; I simply made a proactive effort to have a relationship with him not hold on to the past.
[SPOILER Alert!]
ESSENCE.com: Mica, on this weekโs episode, we get the background story of how your boyfriend Terry started dating you while he was still in a 20-year-long relationship. What made you decide to stay with him after finding out?
Mica: For me it was an instinct. I felt that it was just bad timing on his end and not that he was just a liar or a cheater. I also had a discussion with his ex and she didnโt even bash him. It was just a time where he was in a relationship that he wanted to get out of but didnโt want to tell me because he didnโt want to lose me.
Blood, Sweat, and Heels airs Sundays at 9pm ET on Bravo.
