The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is asking the public for any leads after the body of an unidentified young, Black girl was discovered partially stuffed inside a duffle bag that was left near a hiking trail in Hacienda Heights, Calif. on Tuesday.
According to Refinery29, Los Angeles County workers made the horrifying discovery while doing maintenance on an equestrian trail area. It is her believed that her body was left there sometime late Sunday evening.
“It’s a horrible tragic case our investigators are working diligently on to solve,” Homicide Lt. Scott Hoglund said in a press conference on Wednesday. “We are looking for any lead. If you wish to remain anonymous, Crime Stoppers is a great option — you can remain anonymous and report what you may know.”
Hoglund also said that the department has reached out to the Department of Children’s Services, school districts and missing child organizations to try and identify the girl, who is believed to be between the ages of 8 and 13 years old. Police say that the child was approximately 4’5″ tall and weighed about 55 pounds. She was found wearing a long-sleeved pink shirt with the words “future
princess hero” stylized on it, as well as grey panda print leggings.
Investigators revealed that there were no signs of trauma found on the young girls’ body. Police will investigate the case as a “suspicious death” until a confirmed cause of death is given by the medical examiner.
