The Ohio teen girl who fatally shot her father because of his alleged abuse was released Sunday from custody.
Bresha Meadows was only 14-years-old when she was charged with aggravated murder for allegedly shooting her father with his own gun while he was sleeping. She claimed self-defense for her actions.
Following the shooting, her mother, Brandi Meadows, revealed a history of abuse by her husband. She even filed a protective order against him, but later dismissed it after they reconciled their differences.
“She is my hero. She helped me; she helped all of us so we could have a better life,” Brandi told Fox 8 News in Cleveland at the time.
Bresha’s father’s family has consistently denied there was any abuse. Meadows plead guilty to an amended charge of involuntary manslaughter with gun specifications last May, WKBN 27 reports.
Now 16-years-old, Bresha has served time at a juvenile detention center as well as a mental health facility, according to WFMJ 21. Her family says she is looking forward to leading a normal life. She will live with her mother while she’s on probation for two years.
