The only thing worse then spending too much money on a wedding is spending it when there is no wedding. SInce most wedding deposits are non-refundable, usually couples and their families are out of luck when plans fall apart and no one benefits from the thousands of dollars spent. That’s why the generous decision one anonymous father of the bride recently made in California made headlines this week.
The man’s daughter was supposed to get married this Saturday at a hotel in Oxnard, California, but the wedding was called off at the last minute. Since his $8,000 deposit for the catering was non-refundable, he decided to offer the less fortunate a chance to dine on the decadent dinner they’d planned for guests.
The bride’s father called the Ventura County Rescue Mission and Lighthouse and asked if they could arrange for some of the local homeless to come and enjoy the festivities. “He said ‘I’d hate for this to go to waste when there are so many people who are really hungry,'” John Saltee, the director of the rescue organization told local news outlets. “So he asked us, is there any way you can get 150 men, women and children from here to Mandalay Bay Embassy Suites?”
Now that’s sweet.
