Media mogul Cathy Hughes isn’t immune to the recession and has made some big cuts to keep Radio One, the largest conglomerate of Black radio stations, alive. She and her employees have taken pay cuts, turned in vacation time and closed the corporate office every other Friday to keep the lights on, she said on XM radio. Representative John Conyers is pushing for an even bigger burden for stations, as he sponsors a bill for stations to pay artists royalties for playing their music.—CJ
