TV vet Channing Dungey is the new president of entertainment at ABC, reports Variety.
The position makes her the first African-American and the first Black woman to head programming at any of the major broadcast networks.

“I’m thrilled and humbled that Ben [Sherwood – co-chairman, Disney Media Networks] has entrusted me with this tremendous opportunity,” she said of her new position. “I’ve had the great honor of working alongside the talented team at ABC for many years and look forward to starting this exciting new chapter with them.”
Dungey, who has been with the network since 2009, replaced Paul Lee who was ousted in a power struggle with Sherwood and helped to develop some of the networks biggest series’ including Scandal, How to Get Away with Murder, Quantico, American Crime and Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD.
Disney/ABC Television president Ben Sherwood spoke highly of Dungey’s appointment stating that she will excel in her new role.
“Channing is a gifted leader and a proven magnet for top creative talent, with an impressive record of developing compelling, breakthrough programming that resonates with viewers,” he said.
