In a statement made Sunday evening, Charlotte mayor Jennifer Roberts announced that the curfew imposed on the city would be terminated immediately.
For days the city has been under a curfew following protests that turned violent Thursday night, which led to the National Guard being called in and stationed throughout the downtown area. Protestors have been taking to the streets since the killing of Keith Lamont Scott last Tuesday.
Protests were peaceful Saturday night as people marched through the streets following the release of police video of Scott’s shooting. Some also gathered Sunday afternoon at the Bank of America Stadium, where they were surrounded by officers on bikes.

Officials stated they were worried that protestors might disrupt fans or the game and Interim City Manager Ron Kimble called the Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings game at Bank of America Stadium “an extraordinary event,” allowing for greater police control. However, their fears remained unwarranted as the protest remained peaceful.
Scott’s death is still under investigation and Police Chief Kerr Putney told reporters that while he believes officers didn’t break the law the State Bureau of Investigation is still working on the case.
