Chris Brown can relate to what football player Ray Rice is going through.
The “New Flame” singer, who assaulted ex-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009, tells MTV he’s “been down that road.”
“I’ve made my mistakes too, but it’s all about how you deal and push forward and control yourself,” he tells MTV’s Sway Calloway. “It’s all about the choices you do make… I think help is great. I still talk to my therapist twice a week, and it helps me to…if I’m frustrated and I’m dealing with something, to vent and say what I’m going through so I can hear from an actual clinical person.”
For the incident, Brown, 25, spent five months in court-ordered rehab and another three months in jail for violating his probation. He recently pleaded guilty to assault for a sidewalk fight in Washington, D.C., which occurred while he was on probation for the 2009 incident.
“It’s all about how you push forward and how you control yourself,” says Brown.
