Tailoring quality clothing and accessories dating all the way back to the 1940s is her forté. But Bereket offers more than just cute clothes, the vintage connoisseur gives you a thorough history lesson behind the pieces you purchase, how to wear it and how to store it.
Here, she gives us the do’s and don’ts of vintage shopping and a peek at the pieces in her closet.
Don’t look at the size of the garment, most of the time it is misleading. Sizing has changed through the decades.
Do look at the label to see the material, most of the time you can find amazing fabrics like silk, cashmere and chiffon for great prices.
Do look for everyday pieces in vintage. You can always find amazing luxury blazers, coats, furs, silk shirts and jackets.
Do make sure you know your measurements for your shoulders, arms, bust, waist, hips and length if you shop online. If you know your sizes you can never buy a wrong garment online.
Do keep an item you find while thrifting that you love, even if it doesn’t fit perfectly. A tailor can always alter it in to your size (every fashionista should have a tailor!).
You can build a unique wardrobe without breaking the bank and adding more waste to the planet – every American throws away 68 pounds of clothes every year – that isn’t necessary!
