Guess what flavor brew we’ve got bubbling over:
• Beyoncé can officially add Emmy-winner to her already lengthy resumé. The diva and her team were recognized for Best Outstanding Lighting Design for her 12-minute concert during the 2013 Super Bowl halftime show. In total, Beyoncé received three nominations, the other two are for Outstanding Special Class—Short-Format Live-Action Entertainment Programs and Outstanding Technical Direction, Camerawork, Video Control for a Miniseries, Movie or a Special. Although a handful of Emmys were awarded over the weekend, the rest will be given out this Sunday on CBS. [International Business Times]
• The Queen Latifah Show debuted with very strong numbers this week. The show, which is Latifah’s second foray into daytime TV, earned the biggest debut of the season so far.The show’s glitzy debut made it the best premiere in four years. Although she didn’t quite beat Katie Couric’s debut ratings last year, she’s clearly on a path to success. [Hollywood Reporter]
• Jamie Foxx joined the University of California’s “Promise for Education” campaign recently. And as part of his commitment, the actor did a number of funny impressions in the new PSA—including former President Bill Clinton, President Barack Obama and Mo’Nique. Check out the funny clip here. • This past weekend, the fourth annual Uniquely You Summit for Girls was held at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA. Famed writer and producer Mara Brock Akil was on hand to deliver the keynote address to 500 girls of color. In her speech, Akil urged the young women to travel, eat healthier and to have a plan to achieve their goals and dreams. The weekend also welcomed a number of important speakers including Tai Beauchamp, Dee C. Marshall, Amanda Seales, Basheer Jones and Youseff Crouma among others.
