• Late yesterday, news broke that singer Chris Brown checked himself into rehab just two days after his alleged weekend altercation in Washington, D.C. According to a statement from his rep, Brown entered an unidentified treatment facility to “gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and his career from a healthier vantage point.” An investigation has been launched to find out just what happened. • Fresh off 12 Years a Slave Oscar buzz, director Steve McQueen has begun work on this television debut. Deadline announced plans for McQueen and Russell Simmons to launch a new HBO drama. The untitled series will follow a young African-American man as he enters high society in New York City. However, his past may be a problem for his new lifestyle. It’s unclear when the project will begin shooting and debut. [Deadline]
• Fans of the Broadway play, Trip to Bountiful, will be happy to learn it will air on Lifetime. According to Backstage.com, the drama will be turned into a made-for-TV movie and is scheduled to begin shooting on November 4th. Sources claim that both Vanessa Williams and Cicely Tyson have signed up for the project. However, it’s not yet clear which of the remaining cast members will be on board for filming. [Madame Noire]
• Last week, the internet was buzzing with rumors that Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker got married in Mexico.
