Tessa Thompson has nabbed a Gotham Award for Best Breakthrough Actor for her role as Sam in the satirical comedy, Dear White People. The film’s director, Justin Simien, also received a nomination for Best Breakthrough Director but lost to Ana Lily Amirpour. [The Hollywood Reporter]
John Legend is scheduled to perform at the 2014 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) this Wednesday. MAMA is Asia’s largest music awards show and has honored several of our favorite artists from Stevie Wonder to Dr. Dre.
John Boyea has a message for all of his haters: “Get used to it.” In an Instagram post, the star of the upcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens wrote a note thanking his fans for their support “The fan mail and fan art has added to my joy!” he wrote, adding a kind response to critics of his portrayal of a Black stormtrooper: “To whom it may concern… Get used it.” [Clutch]
50 Cent seems to be having some money issues. The rapper’s personal bank account was frozen after he failed to pay a $17.2 million judgment over a headphones deal, MTV reports. In April, 50 Cent (real name Curtis Jackson) was court-ordered to pay Sleek Audio after they claimed Jackson stole their design and tried to market the headphones himself. His lawyer says he still has access to his business accounts, though. [MTV News]
