Dr. Dre is on a winning streak following the news of his multi-billion dollar deal with Apple. The hip-hop veteran’s hometown is looking to give him a key to the city. Mayor Aja Brown says that she’s reached out to Dre’s representatives to offer the honor. Brown says that she would like Dre’s help in restoring the city, mentioning that it would be great if he could sponsor arts or music programs. [TMZ]
Octavia Spencer is joining the cast of Insurgent, the sequel to action-adventure film, Divergent. Spencer is set to play Johanna, the leader of the Amity Faction, a division of the fictional society dedicated to peacefulness, kindness, trust and neutrality. [HollywoodReporter]
Tyler Perry is suing producers of For Better or Worse following a massive fire that burnt down his studio complex in Atlanta in 2012. Perry claims that the producers were being negligent when they placed a hot light too close to a facade on the set ultimately causing the fire. He is demanding $1.8 million to cover the total damages. [TMZ]
Lil’ Kim and boyfriend Mr. Papers celebrated their new bundle of joy in style Saturday May 10. The couple joined friends at the Broad Street Ballroom in New York for their baby shower complete with lit-up trees, a pink carpet and a beehive shaped cake. Kim’s beau surprised her with a Mercedes-Benz van after which she declared, “I’m officially a soccer mom.” Lil’ Kim is due June 15. [Vibe]
Common has been added to the cast of Ava Duvernay’s Selma. The Oprah Winfrey produced drama about the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. will see Common as civil rights activist James Bevel. He joins an all-star cast that includes Lorraine Toussaint, David Oyelowo, Tessa Thompson, Ledisi, Carmen Ejogo and Andre Holland who has signed on to play Andrew Young. [Deadline]
