• Famed ESPN anchor Stuart Scott is fighting off cancer once again. He tweeted the sad news just before appearing on air last night at 11 p.m. “Blessed by prayers… I’m back in the Fight. C reared its head again,” he shared. “Chemo evry 2 wks but I’ll still work, still work out… still #LIVESTRONG.” Scott was diagnosed with appendiceal cancer in 2007. He also received chemo treatment in 2011. Since announcing the news many athletes have shared their support for Scott including Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III. [NY Daily News]
• Toxicology reports are back from Jovan Belcher’s autopsy. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Belcher had a blood alcohol level more than twice the legal limit during the murder of his girlfriend Kasandra Perkins and his own suicide. [San Francisco Chronicle]
• Nas was hospitalized after experiencing severe vertigo recently. His illness forced him to cancel his appearance on Live! With Kelly and Michael. The rapper eventually tweeted, “Peace y’all. I’m out of the ER & doin alright. I’m on bed rest for a few. Apologies to everyone @Live w/ Kelly and Michael. I’ll make it up.” [Vulture]
• Teena Marie’s final album, Beautiful, is out today but her daughter, Alia Rose, says it wasn’t easy getting things to this point. “The album was actually finished right before Christmas—she was getting ready to go get a deal, and she didn’t make it there. I started moving the day after the funeral,” said Rose. But seeing her mother’s final project come to light is a bit emotional. “It’s my mom, and all I want is her approval and her validation, and by doing the project that’s been helping me in the sense that I’m doing the right thing.” Marie died on December 26, 2010.
