The team light-skinned, team dark-skinned concept is completely new to Empire star Grace Gealey. As a native of the Cayman Islands, she wasn’t introduced to the idea of colorism until coming to the United States.
“I’ve never felt like I was a light-skinned black woman. Never felt that way because we shared the same culture back home,” said Grace. “But when I came to America, that’s when I started to feel that there was a lot of push-back from women. Newly appointed Daily Show host Trevor Noah is already waist deep in public backlash and he hasn’t even started the job yet. The 31-year-old South African comedian is finding himself in hot water over tweets he posted as far back as 2009 that some are calling sexist, racist and anti-Semitic.
