- Kenyan president Uhuru Kenyatta took to Twitter to show his country’s love for Lupita Nyong’o. “You are the pride of Africa,” he tweeted as he celebrated Kenya’s first major Oscar win. Nyong’o was the topic of radio and TV stations across Kenya on Monday following the Academy Awards. Kenyatta has said that the government has made the promotion of arts a priority that must be fulfilled. “It is our intention that Lupita becomes the first of an endless line of Oscar nominees and winners from Africa and Kenya.” [NYPost]
- Kanye West’s creative house Donda is partnering up with Jay Z’s Roc Nation to manage its music divison. Donda, named after West’s late mother, is a design company that aims to bring amazing thinkers together and put them in a creative space to share and build on their ideas and dreams. The collaboration will focus on West’s recording brand and worldwide touring ventures. [E!News]
- Rapper Common was at the right place at the right time when he landed a role on the upcoming Entourage movie. He was finishing up a workout at Equinox in Los Angeles when filmmaker Doug Ellin asked him if he would like to appear in the movie. After agreeing, he filmed his one-line cameo on the spot. - Whoopi Goldberg is set to star in Lifetime’s A Day Late a Dollar Short based on the Terry McMillan novel. Goldberg will also executive produce the film, which is set to premiere in 2014. She will play Viola Price who sets out to repair her fractured family after learning that her next asthma attack could kill her. [TheWrap]
