• For Colored Girls actress Kimberly Elise will star in the upcoming TV movie, Apple Mortgage Cake. The film is based on a true story and follows Logan (Elise), a single mom of three with various jobs, who comes up with the genius idea of baking cakes to save her home in foreclosure. Production began last week in Toronto. Apple Mortgage Cake will air on the UP network. There’s no word when it will officially air. [Yahoo]
• Trey Songz surprised his fans with a sweet treat on Christmas Eve. The R&B crooner released “NaNa” for his beloved Angels. The song not only showcases his vocals, but Songz does a little rapping as well. Could this be a sign of new music to come from Songz in 2014? Fans certainly hope so. Check out “NaNa” here. • Just before Christmas, Kanye West was hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit for his latest single, “Bound 2.” Ricky Spicer of The Ponderosa Twins Plus One filed a suit claiming West sampled his song, “Bound,” without his permission. Spicer seeks an injunction and damages. [Hollywood Reporter]
* Debbie Allen’s production The Hot Chocolate Nutcracker was awarded the 7th Annual National Nutcracker Award. The honor is given to the most loved Nutcracker of the year. Allen’s show ran on December 14th and 15th in Los Angeles. As a result, Allen’s company will receive a cash prize towards its educational programs. [Clutch Mag]
