Coffee Talk: Little Leaguer Mo'Ne Davis Scores 'Sports Illustrated' Cover
Plus, Zoe Saldana addresses pregnancy in ALS Ice Bucket Challange, Idris Elba talks need for diversity on UK Networks, and a Sylvia Robinson biopic is in the making.
Here’s the news that’s getting us over the hump:
Mo’Ne Davis has been on everyone’s mind ever since the 13-year-old Little Leaguer helped her team, the Philadephia Taney Dragons, reach the World Series. After throwing a 70 mph fastball shutout, she became the first girl to throw a shutout in World Series history. And Davis was just getting started. The eighth grader has made it all the way to the cover of Sports Illustrated, making her the first Little Leaguer to ever land there. “To be honest, I never thought I’d be famour for baseball,” said Davis. “I want to play basketball, and I could also do both basketball and baseball–but I really want to play basketball.” [SportsIllustrated]
After weeks of wondering, Zoe Saldana has finally broken the baby bump news. In a video for the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, the Guardians of the Galaxy star confirmed her pregnancy (even though we all aready knew about it). Becuase she couldn’t take part in the ice bucket challenge, she got her adorable hubby to do it for her. We can’t wait to meet this new addition to the family! [HollywoodLife]Although Idris Elba has easily transitioned to the American screen, he still thought it necessary to call on British TV networks to fund a more diverse range of shows. The Luther star wrote an open letter that urged these networks to create a “ringefenced pot of money for Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) programs.” The letter was signed by the likes of Emma Thompson, Stephen Daldry and other industry insiders. [HollywoodReporter]In the midst of the barrage biopics in the making, producer Paula Wagner has put one about Sugar Hill Records co-foundder, Sylvia Robinson, in the mix. [HollywoodReporter]VH1 has released the first look at the ‘Drumline’ sequel.
