See why we’re adding a dash of pumpkin spice to our brew:
• The courtroom drama continues. This time, Marvin Gaye’s estate has filed a counter lawsuit against Robin Thicke. Back in August, Thicke claimed that he didn’t have Gaye in mind when he was writing his mega hit “Blurred Lines.” Since then, Thicke has done several interviews saying that Gaye’s “Got to Give It Up” was one of his favorite songs and that he wanted to “make something like that, something with that groove.” Could that be an admission? The Gaye kids, sans Marvin Gaye III, are also suing over Thicke’s song “Love After War,” claiming it’s a copy of Gaye’s “After the Dance.” The Gaye estate seeks damages and royalties from both songs. • Earlier this week, ESSENCE.com reported that Chris Brown checked himself into rehab for anger management issues. As of today, reports are indicating that Brown could be in rehab for as long as three months. According to sources, the rehab facility was told to “take [Brown] apart and put him back together.” [TMZ]
• Viola Davis had a crush on fellow actor Harrison Ford. Davis told People she chickened out on a plan to “ambush-kiss” Ford. “Listen, I didn’t want to say he was a crush of mine when I was a very young girl, because I did not want to be disrespectful of his age (He’s 71). But I wanted to ambush him… But it did not happen.” She originally planned to plant a big kiss on the star. [People]
• Philadelphia 76er basketball player Allen Iverson has officially retired from the NBA. On Wednesday, the pro-athlete hung up his jersey after an impressive 15-year career. During his career, Iverson was given the MVP award in 2001 and became an 11-time All-Star. He said he’d always knew the day he retired would be “tragic.” [Grio]
