See what we’re talking about over hot coffee:
• OWN acquired TV rights to this summer’s hit movie, Lee Daniel’s The Butler. The network announced the news yesterday and shared it will begin airing the film in 2017. “On the heels of the film’s fantastic debut, we couldn’t be more excited to showcase this incredible movie for our viewers,” said OWN Co-President Erik Logan. “This is a film that every American should see and we look forward to its debut on OWN,” said OWN Co-President Sheri Salata. The film spent three weeks at number one at the box office and has earned over $100 million.
• Halle Berry’s upcoming drama, Frankie & Alice, has a release date! The film, based on a true story of a woman with multiple-personality disorder, is set to be released on April 4, 2014. “Halle Berry delivers a spellbinding performance in Frankie & Alice,” said Codeblack Films President Jeff Clanagan. “Codeblack is thrilled to bring this important film to theaters nationwide delivering on our commitment to bring quality films to the marketplace.”
• Kanye West isn’t too happy with his buddy Jimmy Kimmel. On Wednesday night, Kimmel spoofed West’s recent BBC interview. However, it didn’t sit too well with West. He’s demanding a public apology. West then launched into a Twitter rant. Although Kimmel didn’t seem intimated, he did feel special saying, “Finally, I’m in a rap feud.” [Hollywood Reporter]
• The producers behind the upcoming sequel to Independence Day may have their eyes on Fruitvale Station star Michael B. Jordan. Back in June, the movie’s director said Will Smith would be too expensive and too much of a big name to do the second film. However, it’s unclear who will really take the lead role. As of now, the film is slated to be released in 2015, but may be pushed back by a year. [Grio]
