Happy New Year! Here’s what we’re talking about on the first Friday of 2015:
Tank is ringing in the new year with a new baby! The singer and girlfriend Zena Foster welcomed baby boy, Zion on January 1—the same day Tank was born. How adorable! The proud papa posted a photo of himself holding his newborn son on Instagram early this morning. “I’ll teach you how to be a good boy. I’ll teach you how to be a respectful young man. I’ll teach how to be a respected man,” he wrote. “I pray all my teachings help you become an even better father than I am.. I love you Zion..” Congratulations Tank and Zena!
While Tank said hello to new life this new year, K. Michelle said good-bye to old love. The R&B songstress posted a video on her own Instagram featuring photos of all of the men she dated in 2014 who wouldn’t be a part of her life in 2015. The video included NBA player Lance Stephenson, Bobby Maze, and of course, Idris Elba, the main subject of her new album, Anybody Wanna Buy a Heart?.
Meanwhile, Solange spent her New Year’s Eve with her new hubby, Alan Ferguson, at the Joshua Tree National Park in California. The couple camped out in tents, cuddled in blankets, drank, danced, and reflected on 2014 during their first New Year’s Eve as husband and wife. [Madame Noire]
Don Lemon is leaving 2014 behind with a legacy as the worst journalist of the year. The Columbia Journalism Review Darts & Laurel named Lemon “The Worst Journalist of 2014” for his insensitive coverage of Ferguson following the shooting death of unarmed Black teen, Michael Brown. Here’s hoping he’ll have a better 2015. [News One]
We have our first look at the highly anticipated NWA biopic, Straight Outta Compton. Ice Cube released the trailer to a concert crowd in Sydney, Australia earlier this week, and (thankfully) the footage has been uploaded online. The film, which drops in August, follows the legendary group’s rise to controversial fame. [Rap-Up]
Ray J made a desperate call to 911 to save his ex-girlfriend’s life after she threatened to commit suicide. TMZ obtained a copy of the 911 call in which Ray J begged the dispatcher to send police to Princess Love’s home, where he says she threatened to kill herself with a gun. Listen to Ray J’s 911 call below.
