See what we’re chatting about over coffee:
• After one season on air, TLC has canceled its preachers’ wives show The Sisterhood. Pastor Tara Lewis confirmed the news for fans. “No, I wasn’t surprised, but I remained hopeful that it would be renewed for a second season,” said Lewis. “We remained hopeful, because we know that so many people supported mine and Brian’s standard on the show and were encouraged by our relationship with each other.” The show stirred up controversy when it initially aired—resulting in a change.org petition to get the axe. Other notable celebrities who were honored this year include Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga, both for their social media presence. The Webby Awards are presented by the International Academy of Digital Arts and Sciences. [Webby Awards]
• Earlier this week, President Barack Obama nominated Charlotte, North Carolina mayor Anthony Foxx for Secretary of Transportation. Foxx’s nomination is no surprise to those familiar with his efforts to improve Charlotte. “Since Anthony took office, they’ve broken ground on a new streetcar project that’s going to bring modern electric tram service to the downtown area,” said Obama about his nominee. “They’ve expanded the international airport. And they’re extending the city’s light rail system. All of that has not only helped create new jobs, it’s helped Charlotte become more attractive to business.” [White House]
• America’s Next Top Model is expanding to Africa. The African edition of the show will begin shooting in Cape Town, South Africa this August and will feature 12 models from different nations within Africa. Nigerian supermodel Oluchi Onweagba will host the series. “The African version of the franchise is long overdue and I expect the show to be a smashing success across the continent,” she said. It’s unclear if Tyra Banks, the series creator, will make any guest appearances. [Clutch Magazine]
