See what we’re chatting about over coffee this morning:
• Actress Zoe Saldana is in negotiations to play Gamora in Marvel’s upcoming fantasy thriller Guardians of the Galaxy. Gamora—a green-skinned humanoid—is last of an soon-to-be extinct species and a deadly assassin. If the deal is completed, Saldana will star opposite Chris Pratt and Dave Bautista in the film slated for a summer 2014 release. Before jumping into this project, Saldana will appear in Star Trek: Into Darkness this May as well as the controversial Nina Simone biopic later this year. [Hollywood Reporter]
• Super producer The-Dream announced that he’s no longer working with Keyshia Cole. In fact, he “blacklisted” the singer. Cole responded to The-Dream’s decision on Twitter saying, “Dream not writing any songs for me is fine… I’m on my 6th album… He’s only wrote 1 song on 1 of my albums, which I did love, God Bless.” [Twitter]
• Business mogul Diddy is the latest victim of a swatting prank that saw a dozen cop cars and two police helicopters swarming his L.A. residence. A prank call was made to police claiming someone was shot inside the home. It’s the second time in the last year that a home in that area was the target of a swatting prank. Police are after the perpetrator. [TMZ]
• Thandie Newton hopes to inspire in her new role as a detective in DirecTV’s Rogue. Newton plays Grace Travis, a woman seeking out her son’s killer. For this role, Newton says she owes so much to the actresses that came before her. “They have empowered many,” said Newton. “Empowerment anywhere leads to empowerment everywhere. The world is changing at a pace where it needs to be. That’s how I feel, and I’m proud to be a part of this movement.” [Grio]
