Members of the Congressional Black Caucus discussed police shootings at their weekly meeting Wednesday with several members voicing their concern and frustration.
According to The Root, members have decided to march to the Department of Justice to seek answers. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-Mo.) told reporters after the meeting, “It’s become way too common. Way too routine, this cannot be like business as usual anymore.”

Details of the march haven’t been discussed, but Rep. G.K. Butterfield (D-N.C.) did confirm reports that the CBC had plans to march to the Department of Justice. Along with the march, several members of the committee have offered legislation for funding of police body cameras and various policing bills including special grand juries after police shootings.
Discussing the deaths of Terence Crutcher and Keith Lamont Scott, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch stated, “The Department of Justice is aware of, and we are assessing, the incident that led to the death of Keith Lamont Scott in Charlotte.
We are in regular contact with local authorities as their investigation into the shooting begins to unfold.” She added that on Monday an investigation was also opened into the death of Crutcher, assuring those who heard her speech that the department would do everything in its power to reach a conclusion.
“As always, the Justice Department will be thorough, impartial and exhaustive in reaching a determination about this incident.”
