According to an article published in the Journal of Insect Science, Victoria’s Secret Bombshell Eau de Parfum isn’t just an awesome fragrance; it wards off mosquitos, too! Researchers at New Mexico State University recently discovered that the fragrance wards off both yellow fever mosquitoes and Asian tiger mosquitoes. In a study testing the efficacy of 10 different DEET and non-DEET-based products confirmed that the fragrance is almost as effective at repelling mosquitoes as the average DEET-based commercial repellent. You may be wondering how the eau de parfum ended up in the mix—the researchers were also testing the claim that floral scents attract mosquitos.

“Surprisingly, the perfume we tested Victoria’s Secret Bombshell (fragrance type: fruity floral notes: Purple passion fruit, Shangri-La peony, and Vanilla orchid) has shown to be a strong repellent with effects lasting longer than 120 minutes. It must be noted that the concentration of perfume we used in this test was rather high and that lower concentrations of the same fragrance might have different effects,” researchers stated.
We’re not suggesting that you douse yourself in the Bombshell fragrance, but layering the sweet fragrance over your usual bug spray could save you from falling victim to agonizing itching caused by the bloodsucking insects. And, the next time your guy questions why you’re packing perfume on a camping trip you can tell him you’re protecting yourself from yellow fever!
