There’s been a surge in job applications to work for the Dallas Police Department since the shooting at the peaceful protest that killed five officers, HuffPost reports.
In the twelve days following the shooting, which occurred July 7th, the department claims to have received 467 job applications – a 344 percent increase in comparison to the 136 in June.
The department had been struggling to recruit new officers and has even had to cancel academy classes because of the lack of applicants.
“We’re hiring,” Dallas Police Chief David Brown told protestors according to the Washington Post. “Get out of that protest line and put in an application.”
“We’ll put you in your neighborhood and help you resolve some of those problems.”
Applications have since more than tripled.
