D’Angelo is currently under the weather.
The R&B singer has canceled three upcoming shows this week due to an unspecified “medical emergency,” which allegedly landed him in the hospital. That brings his total number of recent cancellations up to five, reports Rollingstone.
The new cancellations affect concerts in Chicago, Minneapolis and San Diego. Last weekend, D’Angelo pulled the plug on shows in New York and Maryland.
According to a House of Blues executive, a spokesperson from D’Angelo’s camp confirmed the illness but didn’t give much detail. “It’s serious, but he should be OK,” said the singer’s representative.
D’Angelo has been on the touring circuit since last year’s appearance at the 2012 ESSENCE Festival. Fans were certainly hoping that D’Angelo would be releasing new music soon. In January of 2013, Questlove said that D’Angelo’s album was nearly complete and characterized it as his “generation’s version of Sly [and the Family Stone’s] There’s a Riot Goin’ On. It’s potent. It’s funky. It’s an extremely hard pillow to swallow.”
There’s no word on when he plans to put out new music.
