Daniel Kaluuya had a big night at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Awards Sunday night, when he took home the EE Rising Star award.
The award acknowledges new talents in the acting industry and the winner is picked through a public vote.
The British actor has had a massive year with the major success of Jordan Peele’s Get Out and his turn in Marvel’s Black Panther. And in an emotional acceptance speech, he made sure to thank his mother for her support of his career.
“I’d like to thank my mum,” he said, before turning directly to his her in the audience. “My mum is the reason… Mum? You’re the reason why I started, you’re the reason why I’m here, and you’re the reason why I keep going. Do you understand?”
He added: “Thank you for everything. This award… This is yours. Yours.”
