R&B singer Major Harris passed away at age 65 from congestive heart and lung failure in his hometown of Richmond, Virginia this past Friday reports the Associated Press. Harris was a former member of 1960’s and early 1970’s Philadelphia soul group the Delfonics, known for soft medleys like Didn’t I Blow Your Mind This Time and La-La Means I Love You.
During the 1960’s Harris started his career singing for various groups including The Charmers, and Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers before joining the Delfonics in 1971. Three years later, the singer stepped out on his own to pursue a successful solo career creating some of the most widely sampled music including Love Wont Let Me Wait, number five on Billboard’s Hot 100 and later remade by the great Luther Vandross.
In 2008, Harris joined forces with the Delfonics once more to lend his vocals on a Best of Delfonics album and made his final performance in 2011 at a reunion show.
