As the decade comes to an end, everyone is looking forward to new trends and happenings for 2020. With that being said, designer Virgil Abloh, founder of Off-White as well as the helm of Louis Vuitton’s menswear, has predicted that streetwear will be left in this decade.
“Wow. I would say it’s gonna die, you know,” said the designer to DAZED magazine when asked where streetwear is headed in 2020. This is strange due to Virgil’s push into this industry being his PYREX clothing line which gained him a cult following. But now as the designer has taken a luxe approach to fashion, his take on streetwear has altered.
“Like, its time will be up,” he went on to exclaim. “In my mind, how many more t-shirts can we own, how many more hoodies, how many sneakers?” To Alboh’s point, he further explained that instead of new pieces emerging, streetwear pieces will become archived and the search for these quality garments will become a staple. “I think that fashion is gonna go away from buying a boxfresh something; it’ll be like, hey I’m gonna go into my archive.”
