It was the happiest of endings for football player Devon Still and his fiancée Asha Joyce, who tied the knot in a stunning wedding ceremony yesterday evening in New York.
The nation has been rallying behind Still ever since his now-6-year-old daughter Leah was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer two years ago. While battling the disease, Still and Joyce put their nuptials on hold, but after Leah was declared cancer-free last year, the wedding planning resumed.
Devon Still Reveals Daughter Leah Is Cancer-Free
The couple was selected by TheKnot.com as last year’s winners of its Dream Wedding series, and the newly christened Mr. and Mrs. Still said their vows yesterday at the main branch of the New York Public Library, reports People.
“It’s the end to a rough patch, a difficult time for my daughter and for my family because we postponed the wedding to do Leah’s cancer,” Still told People. “Now that it’s here, I feel like it’s the end to a hard time, but the start of our new beginning. And that makes me so excited.”
Naturally, Leah served as the couple’s flower girl, but she was unable to stop crying tears of joy once she saw Asha in her dress. Incorporating Leah into the ceremony, was important to Still. He told People that the ceremony was about marriage, but also the unifying of the families.
“My daughter is the strongest person I know,” Still said. “She is my inspiration, my light.”
Congrats to the happy couple (and new family)!
