Donald Trump is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

Although most assumed as much would happen after former GOP presidential hopeful Ted Cruz dropped out of the race earlier this month, news of Trump securing enough votes to be presumed the nominee seems to be nonetheless puzzling for many who have followed his campaign antics from the beginning. Speculation about the Republican party not being in favor of Trump as a candidate was widespread during the earlier months of his campaign, but the party has slowly been coming together to rally behind him in recent months.
Trump won’t officially be declared the party’s nominee until the delegates vote at the Republican National Convention this July, at which time he’ll begin his road to face off with the Democratic presidential nominee in the 2016 general election.
