Ebola is on everyone’s mind, and on every television set.
When news broke yesterday that a second nurse has tested positive for the virus in Dallas, Texas, media outlets across the country were reporting on the details of her travels—from Dallas to Cleveland—and how fellow passengers may be at risk.
There have been eight cases of Ebola diagnosed in the United States since August, and people are on high alert for contracting the disease. The panic surrounding fear of the virus has resulted in school closings. Some people have even decided to self-quarantinine. Meanwhile, the impact of the virus has been swift and deadlier on the African continent, resulting in the deaths of over 4,000 people in countries like Liberia and Guinea, according to the BBC.
Is the media coverage to blame for our panic, or are we justified to be afraid? Are news outlets reporting too little about the Ebola crisis in Africa and too much about the fear of an outbreak in the U.S.? Let us know your thoughts in a comment below.
