Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Elizabeth “I have a plan for that” Warren has pledged to take on gun violence with a new plan that will reduce gun deaths in America by 80 percent.
She announced her sweeping gun control plan in a Medium article days after the mass shootings in El Paso, Texas, and Dayton, Ohio.
“We might not know how to get all the way there yet. But we’ll start by implementing solutions that we believe will work,” she wrote. “We’ll continue by constantly revisiting and updating those solutions based on new public health research.”
Warren said she would implement immediate administrative action if she was to win the White House, including requiring background checks, investigating the NRA, putting in place an assault weapons ban and revoking licenses for gun dealers who break the law.
But she also made it clear that she would eliminate the filibuster to pass impactful gun legislation in her first 100 days as part of her anti-corruption legislation.
“Enough is enough,” she wrote. “Lasting gun reform requires the elimination of the filibuster.”
On Friday, Warren also called on retail giant Walmart to remove firearms from its shelves.
“Companies that sell guns have a responsibility to the safety of their communities. @Walmart is one of the largest gun retailers in the world,” she tweeted. “The weapons they sell are killing their own customers and employees. No profit is worth those lives. Do the right thing—stop selling guns.”
