Emmanuel AME Church, where nine people were shot and killed in June, is set to donate $1.5 million to survivors of the attacks and the families of slain victims.
The Grio reports that the Charleston, South Carolina church announced the donations in a press relaease on Wednesday. Proceeds were funded by the Charleston’s Hope Foundation which raised $3.4 million in the wake of the shooting.

Interim pastor, Rev. Norvel Goff said that the donations will the benefit families, the church, and the community.
“The church, in its benevolence has made what we feel is a tremendous gift out of honor to the victims’ families and the survivors, too,” he said. “We continue the healing process, but this marks a passage in that healing.”
The remainder of the funds will be used for building improvements, scholarships, community outreach and a permanent memorial for the slain and survivors.
