EMF 2011: Kanye West Playlist
Kanye’s Famous Duets
Kanye West is one of the fabulous gentlemen that will take the stage at the ESSENCE Music Festival this weekend. Are you ready? From high fashion looks like Celine tops to performing in pure white spaces — on “Saturday Night Live” — Kanye is always pushing the artistic envelope. We expect nothing less from the Chicago native this weekend in New Orleans and to celebrate, here’s a playlist of the MC-producer’s duets!
Heard ‘Em Say
Lovely melody flows through out “Heard ‘Em Say” and this was Kanye’s collaboration with pop band Maroon 5’s frontman Adam Levine.
Two Words
“Two Words” was one of our first favorite Kanye tracks because he not only pulled a verse from Philadelphia MC Freeway, but also the adorable Mos Def.
Swagga Like Us
Borrowing the chorus from M.I.A.’s “Paper Planes,” Kanye crafted “Swagga Like Us” which featured T.I., Jay-Z, Drake and Lil Wayne.
Pro Nails
Chicago’s alternative MC Kid Sister nabs Kanye for this electro-jam dedicated to popping finger nails. Tips for everyone!
Power
Since Dwele will be performing at the ESSENCE Music Festival, we’re crossing our fingers that Kanye will bring out the crooner to perform “Power” live.
Gold Digger
Influenced by Jamie Foxx’s performance as Ray Charles in “Ray,” Kanye called on the comedian to sing the hook of “Gold Digger” with a great Charles impression.
Buy You A Drank
Kanye’s remix of T-Pain’s “Buy You A Drank” was a one-off, but still way too much fun.
I Changed My Mind
Remember when Keyshia Cole was just a girl from Oakland, California? Before she became one of our favorite R&B ladies, she recorded with Kanye for her first single, the angry “I Changed My Mind.” Perfection.
Go
In true Common fashion, he’s adorable even as he describes his romps in the sacks. And with Kanye on the chorus, the airy “Go” is a perfect summer soundtrack.
Number One
On “Number One” Kanye collaborated with Pharrell Williams and aired out a break up with one of his ladies in one sitting. Now that’s talent.
