Last night peaceful demonstrators across the nation continued to fill streets and public venues protesting excessive police force and calling for justice in the wake of two shocking grand jury decisions in the Michael Brown and Eric Garner cases.
Protestors in Boston, Miami, New Orleans, New York and Chicago, among other states, shouted for an end to widespread unpunished police brutality and homicides.
In New York City, protestors, undeterred by the rain, remained shocked and angered by the decision not to indict Officer Daniel Pantaleo, who put Garner in a chokehold that ultimately led to his untimely death. Protestors shut off parts of Times Square traffic and gathered at Macy’s iconic Herald Square location and staged a “die-in” while holiday shoppers looked on. After many media outlets have stopped to question those marching about what changes they hope to see, a group in New York passed out a list of demands to the media regarding the Garner death in July.
They asked that legislature make chokeholds punishable by significant penalties, a special prosecutor investigate every report of excessive force and all those involved in the death of Eric Garner be fired among other requests, reports CNN.com.
