Eric Garner’s widow opened up to The View about how her family is coping with two tragedies in her first interview since the tragic death of her daughter Erica Garner last year.
“It’s still surreal to me,” Esaw Snipes said of Erica’s death. “I just talked to her that morning… I kept telling her ‘you have to stay home and build up your heart strength’. I said ‘stay off the internet, because you make yourself angry and cause stress.’”
The 27-year-old passed away last year after enduring a cardiac arrest-induced coma for a week. She became a passionate activist following the death of her father in July 2014.
Eric Garner’s last words — “I can’t breathe! I can’t breathe!” — became a rallying cry for Black Lives Matter protesters.
The apparent stress of her father’s death case likely contributed to Erica Garner’s heart issues.
“She lived her life on her own terms. I couldn’t tell her nothing from the time that she was able to say something back,” Snipes said.
