I was struck by the clarity of focus and aspirations of the women I met—and was so glad I’d brought my daughter along to experience a room so full of #BlackGirlMagic.
A New Vision: In these days of AutoTune, it’s refreshing to hear a new artist who can both sing well, connect to the audience and play their own instruments. I’m happy to say that the listening session I sat in on for Drew Vision at the Hunt & Fish Club NYC was well worth the visit. If you’re coming to New Orleans over the July Fourth weekend, you’ll get to hear Drew for yourself at Essence Festival; if you can’t make it, here’s a video snippet from his set this week.
Herstory: Tuesday night at the Brooklyn Navy Yard was one for the record books: Invited to attend a primary night rally for Hillary Clinton, I witnessed history in the making. The roar of the standing-room-only crowd–which included designer Diane Von Furstenberg—when Clinton was announced as the presumptive Democratic nominee for president, the first woman to ever achieve this goal, was a moment I will never forget.
#Formation: After Beyonce’s Superbowl triumph earlier this year, I didn’t think I could be more blown away by a performance. But that was nothing compared to seeing her visually arresting, no-holds-barred Formation Tour at Citi Field in Flushing, NY this week. Yes, you can say I drank the Lemonade, and it was delicious!
