Last night, VH1’s Love & Hip Hop Atlanta returned with a new drama-filled season of dysfunctional relationships on display and shocking new plot twists.
By now, viewers know exactly what to expect from Mona Scott-Young’s hit reality series—nonstop drama, girl-on-girl physical altercations, and a lot of cussing and uncomfortable encounters, all, supposedly, in the name of love. Whether this offends you or not, the numbers don’t lie—large amounts of Black women are watching the show. But, the question is, what are you tuning in for—entertainment or “reality?”
Twitter responses to the show’s premiere ranged from satisfaction (“Nine minutes in and I love it already…”) to disgust (“I don’t feel sorry for Mimi… she constantly gets hurt by Stevie J… but you’re still with him?), but no matter what, it seemed to be all anyone could talk about yesterday evening. Many fans applauded what they felt was a “clearly scripted” attempt to keep them coming back week-to-week and others threw their hands up when they realized the cast (K. Michelle, MiMi, Erica, Lil Scrappy, Stevie J. and Joseline) hasn’t gotten far from where they left off last season.
Now we’re wondering, for those of you who do tune in, are you past the point of being offended and just more entertained?
