With midterm elections a little over a week away, the so-called “war on women” is taking center stage as Democrats and Republicans accuse each other of being out of touch with what women really need—from contraception and abortion to equal pay.
Tina Brown, founder and CEO of Tina Brown Live Media, believes the Obama administration’s policies have left women feeling unsafe.
“I think particularly for women, I don’t think he makes them feel safe,” Brown said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe during a discussion on the President’s declining poll numbers with women. “What they feel unsafe about is the government response to different crises.” Brown doesn’t think Republicans are doing much for women either and says the party is doing “very little” for women.
“Women hate to be taken for granted and the Democrats totally stepped in it this year,” Republican pollster Kellyanne Conway told National Journal. “They figured if we keep beating the ‘war on women’ drum, we can win.”
Mark Mellman, a Democratic strategist, concurs, saying Republicans have displayed “antipathy toward women in choice issues” and by doing things like “redefining rape.”
We say our vote is our voice. Do you think candidates from either are speaking up for women’s issues? Are you making your voice heard this midterm election? Take our poll and let us know your thoughts in the comments.
