Could there be a Senator Michelle Obama in our future?
It’s totally possible if Illinois voters have any say. According to a new Public Policy Polling survey, the First Lady stands a winning chance were she ever to consider running against current Illinois GOP incumbent Sen. Mark Kirk in 2016. The hypothetical matchup found Mrs. Obama winning 51% to Kirk’s 40%. The First Lady’s popularity already tops her husband’s in their home state of Illinois. Her current approval rating is 60% compared to his 57%.
And one member of the House thinks Mrs. Obama would be an ideal political candidate. “I’d love to see her get more into politics,” South Carolina Democratic Rep. James Clyburn told Newsweek. “It would be a breath of fresh air in D.C.”
Still, FLOTUS has said she has no political ambition whatsoever. Asked on The View if she would ever consider public office, she replied, “I am not interested in politics. Never have been.”
